“No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. 7 minute abs. Nobody’s comin’ up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won’t even get your heart goin’, not even a mouse on a wheel. 7’s the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that’s the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin’ on a branch, eatin’ lots of sunflowers on my uncle’s ranch. You know that old children’s tale from the sea. It’s like you’re dreamin’ about Gorgonzola cheese when it’s clearly Brie time, baby. Step into my office.” –Homicidal Hitchhiker, There’s Something About Mary

I chose Biggest Loser, The Workout because Bob Harper is nowhere near as scary as Jillian Micheals…seriously, she scares the hell out of me!

It was a good DVD for many reasons: the example people were obese (yay for my self-esteem!), Bob isn’t annoying or cocky, and more importantly, I was able to get through the entire 30 minutes without keeling over. The DVD starts you with a 5 minute warm up, 20 minutes of cardio and then a 5 minute cool down. There are two additional 10 minute workouts that can be added during the 6 week period to keep things challenging. I was sweating before the 20 minutes of cardio even started. The cool down was mostly Yoga poses which I have to be in the Yoga-y mood to do, so I just did some of my own stretching and deep breathing.

Along with free videos at the public library, there are also a TON of 20-30 minute workout videos on Charter OnDemand that I plan to review! For those of you who have Charter OnDemand, go to “Sports Free” – “Mag Rack” – “Fitness & Yoga”.

On an odd note, as I was scrolling through the DVDs on the Madison Public Library website, I came across one titled, “Athletic baby. Walk, run & play.” Yes, that’s right; they make exercise videos for babies. I did some research on Amazon and found the following description:

With the hope of turning children into physically fit adults, this video, aimed at toddlers, teaches youngsters how to run, skip, and hop. For children 3 months & up

WTF? I kept hoping that when I got to the section that said “People who purchased this item, might also enjoy:” there would be another DVD titled, “Teaching Babies that Smoking is Not Cool”

Athletic Baby DVD

Must be for those babies you see on Maury Povich all the time.
